Waterfox

@Psephomancy For good or ill, I in fact implemented https://www.votingtheory.org/ in a way that depends on Javascript. Can you open the Javascript console in your browser and see whether there are any error messages?
-
@Psephomancy Maybe I can download Waterfox and test in it. Maybe I'm doing something that runs afoul of its cross-browser scripting rules or something.
-
@Jack-Waugh I don't know javascript well but I see:
SyntaxError: import declarations may only appear at top level of a module www.votingtheory.org:27
-
@Psephomancy It's choking on my attempt to use the "import()" construct (having parentheses), which is supposed to allow a dynamic import. Either it doesn't know the construct or thinks it can only be used from a module. I guess it's a relatively new feature of the language. Maybe I can find a workaround.
-
@Psephomancy The home page works in waterfox-G3.1.0.en-US.linux-x86_64
-
@Jack-Waugh I guess I should have specified "Waterfox Classic". It still doesn't work there.
-
@Psephomancy Agreed, it doesn't. So this raises the question of how modern a browser I can require for the home page and the archive. Maybe for some users, even the features of Waterfox Classic are too advanced. Maybe it should have to work on Links or Lynx. I'm not being sarcastic here; I truly don't know where the project should draw the line.
-
@Jack-Waugh Yeah, I don't know, either. I basically run two browsers now because a few extensions aren't supported in one, but a few websites don't work in the other.

Solved.
-
@Psephomancy, can you find me a version of Waterfox Classic that will allow me to open whatever port I want to for testing? The latest version that automagically downloaded to me says "This address is restricted
"This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Waterfox has canceled the request for your protection."

@psephomancy, do you still love Waterfox Classic? There is a discussion about its future at https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/ycavbd/is_classic_abandoned/

I switched to regular Firefox about a year ago, sadly. I still have Waterfox for occasional use of the add-ons that aren't supported anywhere else anymore, but I don't use it regularly; it's just not viable anymore.
