When I start to write a post or a reply, the input field is about 3/4 inch high. I complained about this in the support forum for the forum software (which software is called "NodeBB").

Approval-ordered Llull (letter grades) [10], Score // Llull [9], Score, STAR, Approval, other rated Condorcet [8]; equal-ranked Condorcet [4]; strictly-ranked Condorcet [3]; everything else [0].

The next step on this is to upgrade to the latest NodeBB. I tend to put it off, because I think that doing it safely involves steps and research. But if people complain, I might bump it up in priority.

Reporting of this supposed issue resulted from a user head-space error on my part. The text area has a handle from which it's possible to expand it.
