Email postfix appears to be down
-
@k-shenefiel Yes, Jameson did check spam filters. We tried all the normal things but were unable to get him an email confirmation to allow him to log in.
-
@sarawolk Did you receive an e-mail notice about the response to which you just responded? Or did you have to navigate to the forum website to notice that there had been a reply?
-
I guess I have to get on the Linux account and try some simple mail tests.
-
@ArendPeter @Jameson-Quinn Who in our Software Dev Committee was working on email confirmations and Sendgrid? It looks like our postfix system isn't working right. I'm not sure how similar the two are, but this is a priority to find someone to help troubleshoot.
-
@sarawolk I get notification emails from the forum. Is it possible gmail is flagging it as spam? I remember that happened at one point.
-
I haven't gotten any email notifications in some time, if ever. I don't normally want email notifications beyond direct mentions since I get more substantive emails each day than I can possibly keep up with but I turned them on anyways recently.
Sass hasn't either. Neither has Jameson.
-
@sarawolk I didn't see the email notification when I first signed up, but today I found my confirmation email in spam. Not sure if something changed
Mike has been managing sendgrid on the star.vote 2.0 project so he might know more
-
I will look into it.
-
I am trying to get in touch with Jameson. He and I are both on gmail. I wrote to him from my own account just to try to establish two-way communication person to person before sending him a test message from the forum user account ("theory"). I hope gmail doesn't classify my mail to him as spam.
-
Besides Jameson, who definitely should have received e-mail, but did not?
-
@jack-waugh I still haven't received any notifications for any of these messages or posts, and neither has Sass.
-
@sarawolk Do you and Sass have the notifications turned off in NodeBB? In any event, please tell NodeBB to send you a test message. I told you which levers to pull in a pvt e-mail.
-
At this point, some evidence suggests that any mail problem is in the version of NodeBB that we currently have in a state of being installed. I sent a test message to Sara using
mail
, which talks to Postfix (probably via Postfix'ssendmail
-compatible entry point). Use ofmail
resulted in a test message successfully being sent to Sara. So at least that one case suggests that our installation of Postfix is working properly.I guess I should allow NodeBB to replace itself with the latest version of itself and we should test again.
-
@jack-waugh We have notifications push to email as we want them. For me that includes DMs, when my name is tagged, when people reply to threads I'm following or when they reply to threads I've commented on.
-
I think the next step on trying to diagnose and repair this issue is for me to https://docs.nodebb.org/configuring/upgrade/ sometime at night. Because if we complain on the support forum, the first thing that will be asked in response is whether we have the latest and greatest code.
-
@jack-waugh I seem to be getting emails now!
Although this did highlight another issue. I had to resize the screenshot small before it let me upload it.

I seem to be getting e-mails now.
The next question is whether @Jameson-Quinn can log in. So far, he hasn't responded to me. Maybe he is busy on other activities and can't put priority on getting reconnected here.
